Route 153 Gets Spring Break March 30, 2009

Friday night, 10:30, on the way home from dinner with friends: The sound of the first spring peepers made me stop the car, roll down the window, and listen.

Sometime Saturday afternoon: After raking the cinders, dirt, rocks, and salt that snowplows left in our front yard, I sat on the slate porch behind the barn, barefoot, pant legs pulled up to the knees. When Tim found me there, we catnapped in the sun.

On March 28.

Yesterday the temperature dropped and it rained. I drove to Portland, where it will be raining a good bit this week.

That’s good. I have work to do. Spring can be very distracting.

Too true. I hope you have a few distractions in Portland though. Such as good food…

Spring IS distracting. I think that’s the point, to get one away from regular business and into the serious business of passing on one’s DNA.

Good for you. You need distractions. So do I, but I cannot afford it right now. Have fun in Portland.

I guess I’m glad your distraction (the sun) is arriving and mine is leaving. I really need to knuckle down and get stuck into the year before it’s over.

I had to google “peeper.” Never expected it to be a frog!

The only distractions I’ve really had in Portland have been food. Too busy for others.

And yes, Mali, frogs…a surprising name.
