The Buntings Are Back May 13, 2010

Yesterday I saw an indigo bunting at my feeder. The day before, a friend posted a photo of indigo buntings at his feeder. I have blatantly stolen it off his Facebook page to share it with you. That other character is an RBGB (red-breasted grosbeak), his RB not too visible here.
Those are such impossibly blue birds. We see them out in the country here, but never in the city. Never seen an RBGB either…
Nice
We don’t have blue birds. They are lovely.
Oh my gosh, they’re beautiful. Do you know if their habitat extends to Southern Ontario?
Oh, Indigo, those indigos! They used to show up in Maryland right on Mother’s Day–they must be fast fliers. Here we’ve had lots of RBGBs, but no indigos. What are you feeding them?
Helen: Looks like yes: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/indigo_bunting/id
Lali: Just black sunflower seed. There’s a suet cake there too. But because I’m in town, I’ll be lucky to see another one there. They’re just dropping in on their way to the fields-near-the-forests…in fact, you’re a bit more likely to see them!
wow. those are crazy blue birds. should have been called electric blue buntings instead of indigo.
