This Year, It’s Worse June 9, 2010

When Northbrook closed two years ago, I wept. Last year, not going back was bad. This year, it’s worse. My daily editing is constantly interspersed with daydreams of hiking and canoeing and fly fishing and reading by the pond until distracted by a fishing eagle.
I had just voiced this to husband Tim when friend Tim posted this as his Facebook status: “Usually, this time of year, we’d be packing for a week at Northbrook Lodge in the Adirondacks for a week of terrorizing fish and spending time & sharing drinks with our same-time-next-year friends. Northbrook Lodge was sold after the 2008 season.”
We are all of us Northbrook refugees sad.
With all the house projects going on right now, it’s likely we ain’t goin’ nowhere for awhile. Not that there’s anywhere I want to go quite as much as I want to go there.
I’m so sorry about Northbrook–and about the gym closing, too.
Me too, IB. I hope you find something close to what you had at Northbrook.
I have been doing my best to ignore this. Unfortunately, my friends at work have been asking when I am heading northward. This is quite painful since I have been trying to avoid thinking about the wonderful location and excellent people.
Am I allowed to curse on your blog?
Forget I asked, I’ll just go back to feeling sorry for myself.
Lali: I do think of them together sometimes—two recent deaths in my own being.
Dona: I know there’s no other Northbrook, but I do soon need to address some of those needs it filled.
Wayne: Curse away. And maybe come see us sometime. Tim’s trying to paint for this fall’s show at Applehead, but maybe we can work something out.
Wah. Don’t tell me it gets worse. I don’t know how long we’ll have our little place on the GAsconade…sigh.
IB – You gotta cheer up! This black hole of despondency is killing me (can only imagine how you’re handling it)… It’s JUNE for crying out loud. You’re in VT!! How could anything make you feel smarter & happier, except adding a martini?! No more mopery!!! Come in to the Manchester Farmer’s Mkt today and be supportive and spend $$ on good folks and you’ll feel even better! And to work through the gym issue, you could walk from 153. xx
Margaret: I was just about to begin the 22-mile walk when the black thunder clouds rolled in. Alas, I will have to wait til Sunday and go to the Dorset market!!!
Is it really June? I had to turn on my space heater today!
Here comes the rain… I feel better already! xxxooo
