Ten Things I Don’t Like and Probably Never Will December 20, 2011
Posted by indigobunting in Uncategorized.trackback
For my “Ten on Tuesday” friends: a series of four Tens starting on Tuesday (to be completed Friday).
1. People talking over each other
2. Most TV “news” coverage
3. Sugar in coffee
4. Having blood drawn
5. Maraschino cherries
6. Being micromanaged
7. Sweet relish
8. Circle dances
9. Excessive clutter
10. Miracle Whip
I’m down with almost all of these, though I like maraschino cherries and sweet relish (as long as it’s home-made). I don’t know what circle dancing is, but it sounds like one of those things I would probably like but wouldn’t want many people to know I like.
I have actually been served snooty maraschinos (dark) that I thought were good, but only once. Those bright red things? Disgusting. Circle dancing:

And one of the posts coming up is about stuff I admit to liking, as you would have to decide whether to do about circle dancing.
1 is commonplace in my family, which is why I dislike family gatherings. Though “talking over” is usually “shouting over,” because no one can hear one another.
You’re right on most of the others, but you’re wrong on sugar in coffee, relish, and Miracle Whip. It’s not a matter of taste; it’s a matter of right and wrong. And you are so very, very wrong. It’s a wonder we’re even friends.
OK, I have to come in and support Craig here, at least on sugar in coffee, and relish. Miracle Whip sounds dodgy to me … I think I’m glad I’ve never had it.
I suspect your comments are about to divide into sweet tooth/non-sweet tooth camps.
Miracle Whip is mayonnaise with sugar in it. Ugh.
Believe it or not, I have a sweet tooth. I just have clear ideas about what tastes good with sugar (ice cream! pie! chocolate! jam!) and what doesn’t (see above).
At this point I am compelled to throw my support firmly behind IB with regard to sugar in coffee and miracle whip (I feel so strongly about that white stuff that I refuse to use caps). Sugar in coffee makes a perfectly good hot beverage taste like botulism. So does sugar in tea, unless it’s chai tea.
Blech.
Maureen, I thank you both for your support and for knowing that you are so very very right.
Word.
Oh dear, IB. You and my husband would be great friends. Except for 6 (being micromanaged) — which I hate and 8 (circle dances) which I don’t know anything about and don’t have time to follow the link none of the items on that list really bother me that much — but Dean would have probably listed them all. (wait — he watches the news)
I put sugar in my coffee (but only sugar in the raw and only a very small amount), love Miracle Whip and sweet relish.
Okay, we’re alike in the news one.
My family is all #1, all the time. 8 people at the dinner table and 10 conversations at once. Just the women, actually. If circle dances are like ceili, I love them…sweet relish, marachinos, olives, blood draws–they’re all great in my book.
